THE PROVINCE OF REGINA ANGELORUM The first ones who came to Timor for Evangelization were the Fransiscan Missionaries in the 16th century, and then followed by the Jesuits around the year 1830. The first SVDs came in 1913 to continue that mission. They were Fr. Noyen and Fr. Vestralen. One of their ways to proclaim the Word of God was through education. They opened the “Sekolah Rakyat” (Elementary School). There, they found out that the students were composed of more girls than boys. So, on July 11, 1913 they wrote a letter to Mother Theresia, the General Superior of SSpS at that time, asking for SSpS sisters to take care of women education.
In 1917, 4 SSpS sisters were sent to Timor, but because of an urgent need, they instead went to Lela, Flores. The SSpS entered Lahurus-Timor only in 1921, as a mission place belonging to the Province of Flores. In year 1949, Timor became a Region. The center of administration, or the regional house was in Atambua. In 1970, the regional leadership transferred its seat to Halilulik. In 1998, it moved back to Atambua as as a provincialate since the Region of Timor had become the Province of Timor
Up to 2003, the SSpS Timor Province had served in 3 dioceses :
