Day 8: A day at Vatican Communications and UISG

This morning, we were privileged to have our session at Radio Vatican now known as the Dicastery for Communication. Sean Patrick Lovett , Vatican Media Professional and Communications Consultant presented the topic “The Church and Social Communication in the Digital Age. Having served at Vatican Radio under several popes, Sean shared insightful, enriching and interesting facts about our Church, leading the group to understand what Vatican is doing Vatican Media Professional and Communications Consultant communication today as well as the challenges she is faced with. He took us through the different development stages of the communications ministry at the Vatican.

The call for us, consecrated women, poses greater challenge. Following Jesus, with love for the Church, we need to be part of the ongoing digital conversation. “We are in the world, but not of the world,” he stressed. Thus, we have to listen, stand on the side of truth, express our identity, be a counter-cultural witness in creating and sustaining relationships of equality in the world and “look up, look out, look around.” The Church needs our unconditional commitment as women religious, with so much gifts as women.

The afternoon session was at the UISG (International Union of Superiors General) building where Patricia Morgante, the Communication Officer at UISG, engaged the group on Communicating the Mission through Social Media, which is to media is to spread the good news. As persons of relationships, our task as communicators is delicate. The young women coming to us today are digital natives. They have to be formed through and for the digital age. We have to use the social media wisely and responsibly.

The day was indeed well spent and everyone was deeply grateful for the enriching conversations organized for the day.

Thank you Mr. Sean Patrick. Watching the whole program of the Pope’s visit of Iraq via Vatican News English channel I was pleased to hear again Mr. Sean Patrick Lovett in his summary on the Pope in Iraq through the Rome Reports English channel.
