From May 9-13, 2016, the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) gathers together general superiors of women’s congregations of apostolic life from all over the world in Rome to discuss issues of global concern for women religious. The theme this year is: “Weaving global solidarity for life”. There are 870 general superiors in the assembly, listening to prominent speakers from their own rank, sharing at tables (with 10 persons at each table), praying, singing and dancing together.
The challenges facing the participants revolve around some of the “signs of the times” like Our Common Home – Earth, Existential and Social Peripheries (migrants, trafficking, and peace), and Apostolic Responses as Consecrated Women.
Among the participants are Sr. Maria Theresia Hörnemann, SSpS, our Congregational Leader, and 5 other Superiors General who are staying with us in the Generalate Community: Sr. Judith Schmidt, Franciscan from Germany, Sr. Therese Nyoni, Little Sisters of St. Francis, from Zambia, Sr. Clementina, Sister of St. Joseph from India, Sr. Tran Thi Kim from Vietnam, Sr. Mary Stela, from India.
